"Slide to Unlock"Best IPad Apps for toddlers

When leaving the house for an outing our checklist includes diapers, clothes change, milk, pacifiers and the allmighty IPAD!! My son surprised us all when we first discovered that he can actually "slide to unlock"! He's not even two yet and can open the folder of his games, then selects the game he wants, plays with it, changes it , and closes it when he's done with it!


Many applications are out there for toddlers, we tried many! Some of them caught my baby's attention for days and days and others he ignored. He is usually interested in doing puzzles (try them with your kids, you will be surprised believe me!) and in the simulation games that require the player to engage in daily tasks ,brushing teeth, hair and bathing. We love the Ipad in our house, however with limited time use during the day, try the following apps and let me know what you think! And most of them are Free and no need to upgrade.

  •  Balloon baby school: What kid doesnt love to pop up balloons! A game with two options - Learn and Play. Your kids will be able to learn colors, animals, food and shapes when using this app. My son loves it, specially when he hears the claps at the end of every level.
  • Peekaboo Pets: The old fashioned knock knock who's there and Peekaboo in one! Add to that animal sounds and names. Great app to learn names and sounds of animals. Highly recommend, I have it on Iphone and Ipad!
  • 1,2,3 : Learning numbers in french. There aren't that many apps for young toddlers in french, but this one is really good for learning basic numbers.
  • ABC Francais: My baby's favorite puzzle game. You kid will be able to reconstitute the puzzle and hear the name of the animal and at a later stage the app will also help your child spell out each word using the French pronunciation of the alphabet. Great animations, highly recomended! (An english version of this game is also available)
  • Pepi Bath: Learning basic daily tasks, brushing teeth, hair bathing , cutting nails and even doing the laundry! Pepi Bath is a role-play game where children learn about hygiene in a fun way. Highly recomended!
  • Feed the animals: Another great educational fun app! my son is not even two yet and already knows what the dog ,cow, frog, sheep , horse and so many other animals eat!
  • Comptines: Sing along in french. All the favorites, L’alphabet, Le fermier dans son pré , Savez-vous planter les choux ?  Pomme de Reinette,  Frère Jacques,  Promenons-nous dans les bois! great animation and sound.
  • Kideos HD: This app is great and worth the      . Sooner or later you kid will discover Youtube. However to control what your children watch , download KIDEOS! This app offers you pre-screened videos of your children's favorite cartoons and tv shows, all categorized by age. Highly recomend it!

Luanda Magic Parc of Miramar

  I think it's Luanda's only outdoor play area for kids of all ages and it is definitely worth a weekly visit from you no matter where you live in Luanda. The parc located in the Miramar area has an entrance fee of only 5 dollars and is suitable for kids of all ages.     It is equipped with outdoor play area for young children- the plastic houses, slides,.. - and for older kids you can find several jumping castles and an arena for renting electric cars.   Other options for rent for 5 $ for half an hour are small bicycles and cars. If you are in Luanda and have kids please do visit this park and I am sure you will be visiting it again and again. All the toys and the park all in all are very well maintained. A large seating area for parents with a café that serves refreshments and sandwiches is also available inside the park. In Luanda...Here's what you need to know !

Since I've been here, most of my findings about the city were done online which earned me the nickname of  "Google it" among my friends. Although the ressources are minimal, however over the years more and more sites have been emerging to help expats and locals move around the country, find something they are looking for and so on.
