In Luanda...Here's what you need to know !

Since I've been here, most of my findings about the city were done online which earned me the nickname of  "Google it" among my friends. Although the ressources are minimal, however over the years more and more sites have been emerging to help expats and locals move around the country, find something they are looking for and so on.

Recently I came upon this great blog that I found through facebook, "Les marraines de Luanda", make sure to look them up, they also have a blog under the same name http://lesmarrainesdeluanda.blogspot.com/ . It's a blog written in French by several contributing expats. The various categories that it includes makes it super easy to navigate and to find exactly what you are looking for. So drop by the blog whether you are looking for a nanny, a supermarket, restaurant or some activity to do around the city. I found my son's playgroup through their blog.

Also in french check www.vivreenangola.com . A group of french expats  got together and created this site to share information that they acquire. From upcoming events, to practical information about everyday life in Luanda, activities, restaurants, organizations, tourism, shopping and many more categories are just a click away.  Whether you just arrived or have been here for years , I am sure there's a piece of information that will be helpful on their site. You can also follow them on facebook to receive uptodate information.

Another cool website that hasn't been around for long but has gained popularity and has so many posts about Angola is http://www.welcometoangola.co.ao  . If you are looking to discover Angola on a long weekend or even take a Sunday day trip, The Welcome to Angola website serves as an online touristic guide to the country. From hotels and resorts to restaurants and events, if you are looking for something to do check it out.

One of my first ever discoveries was Luanda nightlife, back when we were kid-free in Luanda and had the time for clubbing and dining out, this website served us well with the pictures and phone numbers of the restaurants around the city. It was recently renovated and taken over by a new set of contributors. The site gives you a feel of the restaurant's atmosphere through the pictures as well as the average prices - important to avoid any unexpected surprises! :) and even provides you with a map to the venue.
The website is in both Portuguese and English so make sure to check it out before your next outing www.luanda-nightlife.com.

There's also an online app that you can download from the app store "Luanda Life and Spots". A guide to restaurants and nightlife that you can have on your phone. You can filter the type of restaurant you want, the price range , the map and the phone number for reservation. They also have a menu option that you can download for some restaurants. Download it, you never know when it might come in handy.
We need an application like this for medical services in Luanda but you can always take a look at the website of the American Embassy in Luanda they have a huge list of doctors and medical care around the city.

If you are new to Angola or haven't checked those out, make sure to take a look. Since ratings and reviews of restaurants and hotels in Angola are merely unexistent online or on the good old favorite Tripadvisor, these serve extremly well.
Make sure to drop by regularly to this spot as I will update on any new findings of guides around the city :)

Speaking from personal experience, there have been times when I had to cancel my travel plans. However, no airline offers so much flexibility to change flights as Turkish Airline. Turkish Airlines Cancellation Policy has been my savior, they have adopted really good policies in aviation industry.
